When there are children in a case of a divorce or family disputes there are under Cyprus law specific procedures regarding children’s rights as per the children’ s best interest. 

Child custody proceedings take place to determine which of the parents will take custody. Parental care usually is under both parents , and children’s custody is with one of the spouses (mother or father) usually with the one that the child will live at the same house. For the other spouse a communication decree was issued. The spouse that has the custody of the children can apply for child maintenance  in order to financially cover the children’s expenses. Maintenance amount vanes in relation with each child.

Where a child is an adult  It personal expenses can apply by himself for maintenance to be covered by its parent.
